I walked to Chinatown at dinner time, and after passing a few restaurants I decided to try Phuket Royal. It’s a medium sized restaurant with comfortable seating for about 100, with a nice, simple decor. When I arrived just after 6 pm, only 3 tables were occupied, and a few more tables were taken as I had my meal.
As I looked over the menu, I enjoyed some complementary tea. I chose the Phuket Royal’s Pad Ped Talay, which is a seafood stir fry with Thai eggplant. I do not recall having this variety of eggplant before. The were round, about the size of golf balls, and cut into quarters. The outside looked and felt a bit like zucchini, while the inside had the more familiar pulp and seeds. While the shrimp was cooked nicely, the squid was a little bit rubbery. Add it baby corn, basil, thinly sliced bell peppers, tofu and more, in a medium heat yellow curry sauce, and there was a really nice combination of textures and flavours.
Service was pleasant and fast.
The service is good. Restaurant is spacious and clean and tastefully decorated. My husband had a small bowl of lemongrass soup and he said it was good. Where this restaurant really impressed me is they had vegetable pho (vegetables in vegetable broth with rice noodles) without tofu- which is quite hard to find here in Ottawa. The bowl was presented with an abundance of fresh vegetables in it, the broth was very good. I loved it and for sure will be back - maybe tomorrow. @
Excellent service and the food was amazing! From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. Staff had sincere smiles and the desire to give us a positive experience. We also learned a little about their culture and they were more than happy to share a few things with us.
